Lethrinops sp."nyassae" can be found in entire Lake Malawi. They are living in sandy environments, in the neighbourhood of rocks and in the intermediate zones from rocks to sand. This variant can be found near Mbahwa Island (sometimes this reef is also referred to as Lipingo Rock), between Hongi Island and Lundo Island. In the lake the males of these species can grow to 10 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 14 cm, females grow to about 16 cm. Lethrinops sp."nyassae" is searching the sand for food and lives mainly of the invertebrates they find in the sand after jigging this. You can best keep this species with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space. It`s a quiet, peaceful cichlid which can be hold best with other quiet species from equal environments. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix. |
